The evenings may be getting darker earlier and it’s almost back-to-school time -which signifies only one thing. Yes, it’s time to get autumn-sharp and inject newness into your wardrobe. The style watchers among you are, no doubt, already aware of the forthcoming trends this season. Just in case, here are our three top tips for footwear for AW16……

If there are two colours that will dominate menswear for autumn, they have to be blue and brown. So strike two in one with Pilar, with its stylish combo of Vintage Indigo and polished Castanho leather on the toe and heel. This stunning men’s leather brogue works a strong look by day at the office and by night when out on the town.

Panorama Whisky

High shine fabrics played a big role on the fashion catwalks. You may not want to stretch to wearing a silk shirt or metallic parka, but these Panorama leather lace-up boots will add just the right dash of sheen. And the durable leather soles with rubber touch points vamp up comfort. Perfect paired with either a suit (especially navy) or skinny jeans.

The trouble with shooting the new collection for autumn/winter is that you need to do so in the height of summer. But, hey, who’s to complain, after all the rain we’ve had this year? Cue one sunny day, one stunning setting, one crew, one model, one dog and many pairs of shoes. (Or as Paul, our photographer, so eloquently observed, ‘Nice place. Nice weather.’)

Now, dogs and shoes don’t necessarily go together but this is Monty. And Monty is an exception.

Monty’s owned by Moema and Joao – the dynamite and brains behind Anatomic & Co – and hardly a day goes by when he’s not in the office, surrounded by boots, brogues and loafers. In fact, Monty was the inspiration behind our new logo in our recent brand revamp. And so it seemed fitting that he should also feature in the shoot.

Our location was Winchester House in Putney, on the banks of the Thames and with the most amazing views (especially on Boat Race day). Built in the 17th century, this gentleman’s club is said to have been used by Oliver Cromwell during the Civil War. He planted a mulberry tree, which still bears fruit today.

Interest about the shoot had been brewing intensely for some time beforehand i.e. casting and choosing the male model. The brief was ‘someone people could relate to… someone with good legs’. Despite numerous offers of help, Dan, our Online Marketing Executive, made the executive decision himself.

For this season, the photographic direction took a minimalistic approach to highlight our new shoes and boots with an even balance of formal and casual and without relying too much on props.

And, of course, in line with our ‘In good company’ strapline, name, our model, had excellent company in the form of his canine counterpart: Monty.

Federer was playing in the quarter-finals that day, just a few miles down the road at Wimbledon, but we were far too busy to take any notice. Chairs had to be moved, bookcases had to be chosen, sofas had to be shifted, clothes had to be pressed and Monty had to be walked.

Although this was July, our model had to sport overcoats and jumpers to complement our new styles in autumnal shades of browns and reds. ‘Looking good,’ as Jemima our stylist exclaimed.

It was a highly successful day, made all the more memorable by a riverside drink at the end at the pub next door. It was a day without hitches, apart from Monty escaping at one point by jumping over a 7’ high wall (those little Jack Russell legs are highly deceptive).

Thankfully we managed to get him safely back but who knows what he’d been chasing after. A rabbit? A better modelling contract?

Pilar Two-Toned Indigo/Castanho

What sets our Pilar men’s lace-up brogue apart from any other in the collection we hear you ask? Well, for a start it’s an Oxford, a term best characterised by its “closed lacing” and more refined silhouette. Look out for its two-toned smooth leather upper in Indigo/Castanho, wing-tipped toe and contrasting hand-stitched welt, but as with all our men’s shoes and boots, it’s not until you slide them on and feel their soft natural leathers and cushioned sheepskin lining until you really feel the benefits. Pilar is also exclusive to our website.
