Last week Matt Cardle performed his new single ‘Hit my Heart’ from his 3rd studio album Porcelain. For his performance he wore a pair of grey slim fit jeans with a denim shirt and navy jacket. For footwear he opted for no other than our Gabriel brogue in our signature waxy leather! The Gabriel has been a staple in our collection for a few seasons now, a classic brogue is essential in every mans wardrobe and our different colours such as the brown waxy leather bridges with gap between formalwear & casualwear. You can find the Gabriel here.
In this months edition of shoe & place we take a look at one of our new shoes for Spring/Summer, the Franca, and the city behind it, coincidentally one of the most important cities for us.
Franca is a city in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with roughly 327,000 inhabitants. Most importantly for us, Franca is the footwear capital of Brazil and where we craft our footwear. It is steeped in history with the footwear manufacturing industry starting here in the 1920’s and developing ever since then. Franca now has hundreds of footwear factories, 30 tanneries and over 40 shoe sole production facilities. The result is the city having an output of more than 30 million pairs of shoes a year.

The Franca is also a beautiful boot new to the collection for Spring/Summer with hand crafted brogue detailing. It is available in a lovely navy and brown suede as well as a brown leather with contrast soles. The Franca also features our new ultralight sole making it the perfect shoe for summer looking great with jeans or chinos!

Summer is soon approaching so now is the perfect time to think about summer footwear. This season we take a look at our 5 favourite trends with examples and advice of how to wear each one!
Everyone should own a pair of sandals, especially if you are planning to go on holiday in the summer. The sandal is a relaxing, informal shoe that has taken the Spring/Summer catwalks by storm this season. Our favourite, the Sabino is available in a great grain leather and features two adjustable straps for the perfect fit!
The Driving Moccasin
There is nothing quite like a pair of Driving Moccasins in the summer. Favoured by the Italians who wear them with shorts casually or even with chinos and a blazer, they truly are a surprising versatile shoe. Our staple driving Mocc, the Lajeado is available in a Saffron suede that is sure to stand out!
The Contrast Sole
The contrast sole adds a playful dimension to a shoe and is a key trend for the summer. We have a great selection of contrast sole shoes such as the Tucano & Colorado. For this summer we have brought in the Piraju which we are really excited about. Here it is in navy suede on our new ultralight sole in a contrast blue.
The Summer Boot
Boots of often thought of as a winter item but they really shouldn’t be. Our Franca is a perfect example of a summer boot. It is available in a beautiful navy and brown suede as well as a brown leather. The Franca also features our Relax sole which is really light! We recommend wearing them with a light wash jeans or a relaxed trouser.
A two-Tone is a really exciting way to completely change the appearance of a classic brogue. Our Two-Tone version of the Tucano fuses beautiful leather with English inspired herringbone wool. The outcome is a shoe that looks great at the weekend or with blazers and chinos during the week!

Now that the new Spring/Summer collection is available online we decided to ask ten members of staff what their favourite style is. The answers varied from boots to sandals and saffron suede to black leather. There really is something for everyone in the new collection!
Roze, Credit Controller – Roze’s husband told us: Great about being a man is that you can do perfectly well by sticking with just a few pair of shoes. You don’t need to maintain some Carrie Bradshaw obsession about the latest and coolest, so Franca shoes is my perfect style they have a vintage, functional, stylish and cool look. They will be great for wandering the city streets of London.
Duncan, Head of Sales – My favourites are the Barbosa slip ons in Tan because they are extremely easy to wear and extremely comfortable. The Barbosa looks great with chinos, cords, or smart trousers, even suits. I also love Olinda in Cognac; it is the perfect weekend shoe, it can be worn without socks, with shorts or smart casual with jeans or lightweight trousers.
Joao, CEO – My preferred style for an occasion such as a black tie party or a wedding will have to be Suzano in black, it is very stylish and super comfortable, you can dance the whole night in them. I would also wear Panorama black for an occasion or for an important business meeting.
Moema, MD – For my husband for the summer I would pick Lajeado in suede saffron. He would not chose them himself but would wear them because it is such a trendy colour. I would obviously have to style him, but I like doing it.
Rachel, Ecommerce Assistant – My Dad is always in a rush, going here and there, so comfort is high on his list along with style. The style on his wish list from the new collection is the Olimpia lace up. The cushioned ankle and rich brown colour are perfect for a casual day in jeans and a t-shirt and the smooth black would look great with his suit!
Simran, Assistant Accountant – My boyfriend would love the Lajeado in Saffron as they are casual, trendy and look perfect for summer. The colour is different and vibrant to most shoes, it gives a very young look as well as giving the element of comfort. I also love suede which is a plus!
Ozzie, Designer/Developer – My husband is a DJ and he loves our Relax sole. He finds them fashionable and cool not only for London but for Europe as well. So he will get something on Relax sole on his birthday for sure, I will recommend Piraju! He already has Tucano in Tobacco, he wears them everywhere, he says they are the most comfortable shoes he ever had!
Travis, Warehouse Operative – My pick would have to be the different, but very smart looking Tucano Cafe. The smooth leather with the herringbone upper material gives the shoes a feeling of class and elegance. These are the perfect shoes for dressing up on a smart occasion if you want to stand out a little and they also suit smart casual and go with a pair of jeans for a day out with the family or friends, to the shops or a meal.
Alex, Warehouse Operative – The Matao Cognac is my favourite as I like the styling of leather being waxy. I like the contrast of light and dark shades between the stitching/laces and the leather on the shoe. I think that it would be best for me as it could be used as an everyday kind of footwear but if needed as a smart, presentable boot also. It looks like it would fit in during the summer and the winter ranges which makes it an all round good boot.
Magda, CFO – I will definitely be buying the Black Ribeira Sandals for my husband for our next holiday. They look much smarter than flip flops to wear on a stroll in town or even for a dinner in the summer heat and I know they will keep his feet cool and comfortable. The cognac version would look great with linen trousers or light beige shorts too!
